If you thought True Blood, Sense8 and How to Get Away with Murder featured the most explicit gay sex scenes ever to appear on TV, buckle up and get ready for American Gods to really go there. 👀

The series is based on Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name about modern-day gods fighting over who gets to control humanity. In the third episode airing this Sunday on Starz, American Gods will take the gay storyline to x-rated levels never before seen on television. 🙈

The best gay porn I’ve ever watched.

According to BuzzFeed, the scene depicts actor Omid Abtahi having sex with a fire genie played by Mousa Kraish in a New York hotel room. The same-sex scene starts out with full-frontal male nudity before going into flip-fucking and ending with an “ejaculation of flames.” Sounds hot. 🔥🔥

BuzzFeed called it the most explicit gay sex scene ever shown on television. New York magazine writer Abraham Riesman said it was “the single hottest and most pornographic gay sex scene ever put on mainstream television.” Paste writer Matt Brennan added that, “it made my palms sweat.” 💦

The gay sex scene also got the approval of Gaiman himself, who never imagined it would be possible to adapt for the screen. He told Vice News that he didn’t think it would make it on the show.

“But then I’m watching it, and I appear to be watching the best gay porn I’ve ever watched,” Gaiman said. “My sampling of gay porn is basically just this, but I’m watching it and I can’t believe they’re doing it. You feel like boundaries are being pushed, and that makes me very proud.”

Despite the scene’s graphic nature, the showrunners actually aimed to portray gay sex as beautiful and intimate. The scene also takes another important step in television: showing Muslim characters in a sexual way, nevermind the fact that it’s same-sex attraction. 👏

“Sex scene aside, just seeing two Middle Eastern men represented in that way, with humor and love and joy… It’s taken me 11 years to get to that,” Mousa Kraish told BuzzFeed.
