Kim Kardashian’s selfies have been elevated to become their own artform, so why not celebrate dick pics for the works of art they truly are?

Just like Kim’s selfies, we seem to be inundated with dick pics nowadays — thanks in large part to online dating and sexting. So if you’ve ever taken and shared a dick pic, don’t be surprised or ashamed if it ends up showing up online.

“It’s time for the cultural norm that says nude photos are shameful or shocking to end. There are simply too many naked pictures of too many people—and they’re about to be all over our screens,” according to Wired.

There are so many dick pics already all over the Internet: Disney princes are getting in on the action, there’s a video game to simulate nude selfie-taking and full-frontal penises have become recent fashion accessories.

So it makes sense that we’ve started creating a system of organization, categorization and critique for dick pics. Basically we’ve seen enough now to know what makes a “good” dick pic. There’s a NSFW Tumblr dedicated entirely to rating dick pics. The dick pic below was graded an A+ and applauded for its “expert” use of focus, lighting, and use of towel to “bring movement, anonymity and subtlety to the shot.”Dick PicsBut not all dick pics submitted to Critique My Dick Pic get approval from this discerning Tumblr user. A particularly blunt critique given to a D- “log” shot described the dick pic as “a boring, bird’s-eye-view shot of your dick, with no artistic flourishes whatsoever and a dismally messy and mundane background.”

Could sexual orientation play a factor in the art of dick pic-taking?

“Gay guys really do take the best dick pics,” says Soraya Doolbaz a “professional dick photographer” who has started taking dick pics as if they were high-fashion editorial shoots.

“The reality is, penises were on the map way back in Roman times,” Doolbaz adds. She has started a Dicture Gallery to post all her photos capturing this dick art renaissance. Here are two of our favorites.

Doolbaz is not the first woman to think that dick pics are worthy of being considered art. In 2013 the Brooklyn-based art collective Future Femme went insofar as to pose as gay men on Grindr in order to be able to collect upwards of 150 dick pics for an exhibit they were putting together.

Similarly, Antonio Da Silva collected 2,500 selfies of gay men in various states of undress (and arousal) and put them all together in a flashing montage that goes from flirty to full-on full-frontal. The project titled PIX was Da Silva’s way of exploring Grindr and Tumblr as a “marketplace of desire.” Watch the full-length NSFW film here.On the more playful side, Doolbaz’s photos also remind us of a Tumblr we blogged about a few months ago: Things My Dick Does. The San Francisco-based photo series has a penis taking on a silly personality that likes to play dress-up, party all night and bake cakes.Dick PicsAnd those are just a few artists who are using dicks as the subject. What about artists who are using the penis as their tool? How can we forget about Brent Fraser, the Toronto-based artist who uses his penis as a paintbrush.Dick Pics
