We’ve already seen Barbie gone bad, so now it’s time for Snow White and Cinderella to get their dirty on. Illustrator José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros subverts Disney’s overly-cautious preoccupation with presenting a squeaky clean image and diverting towards anything naughty. According to the gallery website, artist Ontiveros:
…seeks to demystify the modern fairytale. Rodolfo juxtaposes representations of animation’s yesteryear with unexpected, almost antithetical situations. While his subjects (in another context) might embody the quintessential happy ending, Rodolfo reminds is that as individuals we are neither wholly immune nor entirely susceptible to viscera.
That’s all fine and dandy, but sometimes I wonder why same-sex attraction is put in the same category as drug use, torture and other vile behavior.
